Barisal Divisional Museum

The Barisal Divisional Museum which is run by the Archeological Department is situated at Chak Bazar Road in the town. Recently an attempt has been taken to renovate the collectorate building which was built in 1821 into Barisal Divisional Museum and which was opened to the public in 2015. On the 2nd floor of the spectacular museum, there are more than 350 objects in 9 galleries.

The coins and the phallic symbols of Shiva made of sandstone and touchstone of the period of Sultan, Mogul, and British, were collected from the different parts of the country and, kept in these galleries.

Over and above, copper foils/ sheets, weights of scales, iron rods, wire nails, and photographs of parts of the old boat found on the seashore are preserved here. Moreover, there are chests of different sizes and shapes, which were used in the collectorate building for collecting tax in the museum.

Here, the noted people of Barisal, its cultural traditions, folk arts, archeological resources of Bangladesh, history, and heritage including the geographical and natural introduction have been preserved. The museum is left open to the public every day other than the full Sunday and half-Monday of the week.
